projects

When it comes to focusing the mind there is nothing better than working within the parameters of a well defined project. My personal experience is that setting yourself a project also helps with photographic discipline, for example I will often set myself a project that is restricted to a certain aspect ratio, typically a 1:1 square format which will challenge you to hone your composition skills, especially when confronted with a traditional landscape which we all view in a wider format.

For those wishing to self publish, a personal project is a great starting point to learn the fundamentals of sequencing and editing images as the self imposed limitations automatically give the project continuity which is a critical consideration when putting together a book.
